I have made a few purchases now in order to refresh my outdated closet. For the most part the descriptions are accurate, though having the waist measurement would be very helpful in determining if a skirt will fit or not. Women's sizes vary too much from manufacturer to manufacturer and trying to look up every single size chart is a hassle. Everything has been received fairly quickly, especially considering the current delivery delays. Returns can take a month or more to credit, that definitely could use some work! I cannot think of any other store I purchase from that does not give credit once the package has been scanned in, with the caveat that if the items are damaged in any way I will be charged in full for them. Yes the clothing has that used clothes/thrift store scent, but I wash clothing before I wear it whether brand new or used, so it doesn't bother me. As far as selling I haven't sent anything in yet, but when I do I realize the return is small, and they only accept about 40% of items they receive. With that in mind I would only send clothing I was going to donate anyway, and hope for a bit of play money. All in all I have had a very successful experience both with shopping directly and purchasing a Goody Box. I have recommended them to my friends and family that enjoy thrifting.

The only time I ever returned something was a defective pair of sneakers. There was no purchase history on their website so I could not print a return label. There is no way to contact thredUP for help - no phone number, no chat so I had to do exhaustive searching to return the shoes within their 14-day policy. After i finally found an email address there was reluctance to refund my money. They said they would do it once "as a courtesy" even though it was their own fault for the confusion due to their website not working properly

Scam-Thieves

They steal your clothes and your money. Buyers and sellers beware and read ALL the fine print before doing any business with them. Stick with Ebay or Poshmark or donate

Lots of options but over-priced for second-hand

I give ThreadUp a solid meh.

I love the concept and have gotten some reasonable deals using their discount codes (Coach wristlets for $40). I feel like the expansive inventory and filter functions could be great at saving someone time if they had something specific in mind. I've never experienced an issue with discrepancy in descriptions or shipping either - everything has always arrived as stated, on time.

However, I feel like for the items being sold second-hand, the mark-ups can border on being unreasonable. I acknowledge Loft, Madewell, Anthro, JCrew, etc. are so much brand-new, but when they're out-of-season pieces and I find the same items at my local Goodwill for $2.99-$4.99/each, the argument doesn't hold.

In conclusion, my personal feelings are that if you're willing to spend a little time browsing racks, you could easily get 4/5 items at your local thrift store or garage sale over the $20 ThreadUP can be trying to charge for one. Bonus points, you'll save the Earth by eliminating all the shipping travel and packaging!

Plus, Goodwill, St Vincent de Paul, and my neighbors are all causes and people I want to support. I have no idea who is profiting at ThreadUp and regardless, it probably won't impact me or my community directly.

Don't send them anything

Take your items to your favorite Donation Spot. They SCAMMED me unbelievable. They don't even look at your bag for a year, then cheat you.

Not What It Used to Be

In the past year, both my buying and selling experiences with ThredUp have tanked. I'm going to detail some frustrations with this company in order of which are most important to me:
1) In the last bag I sent to ThredUp, everything that was supposed to sell or expire did, except for one pair of boots. Suddenly, on Thursday, 04/01/2021, the boots were listed as "reserved," meaning that they are in someone's cart, at least based on ThredUp's commentary of what "reserved" means. The item remained reserved continuously through Saturday night. ThredUp states that there are 4 hour limits on reservations, so I was pretty confused about how this could happen. While I had dropped the price, I found it hard to believe that the item was so desirable that people were re-reserving it the minute it became available for several days on end.
When I contacted customer service about the issue on 04/03/2021, I was told that they would have to look into why this was happening. On 04/06/2021, I received a reply saying that their Vernon Hills warehouse had been shut down and all items in the warehouse were listed as reserved until they could be transferred to another location to continue selling.
I have scoured my email for any notification that this was happening. I have come up empty handed. ThredUp is not the most transparent in the world about their buying policy to begin with. They kind of ask you to trust them that they are picking the pieces they are sure will sell; that they really are recycling all that stuff they don't want to post for sale that came in your bag, as opposed to handing it off to an employee for free; etc. I have accepted the following covenant: I sent clothes to ThredUp; I hope that they pick what is saleable and recycle anything else. Sticking the item on reserve for days on end without telling me violates an already fragile trust relationship. That was not one of the options I signed up for when I sent the bag in. They did not ask me if I'm comfortable with this taking an extra two weeks to sell. It was simply done, and there was nothing I could do about it. This says to me that in future, they may elect to do anything in the world with the stuff I send in, and I'd have little recourse, as I currently have little recourse.
I'm also going to add that I find it extremely strange that they closed the Vernon Hills warehouse and laid off a bunch of employees not long before an IPO. I haven't taken apart the S-1, but I'd be curious about how this shows up there.
2) Making the customer complicit in receiving not great service, part 1. When I sent in my last ThredUp bag, there was a "no rush" option one could check. I tried it as an experiment. The no rush option said that they could have up to 6 months to process the bag.
I'm going to note that this policy is a little bit absurd given that their selling page emphasizes the importance of seasonality and being "on trend." It's hard to do that if a company takes 6 whole months to process what you sent them for sale.
When I checked the no rush option, I did not really believe it would take them 6 months to process the bag. It took them almost the whole 6 months. I used to like ThredUp's convenience--that is why I used this service to begin with--so I am not a person who takes photos of everything I put in the bag. After 6 months, it is impossible to shore up what they actually accepted from the bag vs. what I would've imagined they would find sellable when I was packing the bag. I felt like my ability to judge the deal I was getting had been obscured, and the result of this experiment was that it made me uncomfortable. There was some incentive offered to take the no rush option, but I remember it being small...honestly, I don't know if I ever received whatever it was supposed to be, but whatever it was definitely did not offset the feeling I had that this was a way of them justifying not processing bags in a timely fashion due to COVID and making it seem like a customer incentive.
3) Making the customer complicit in receiving not great service, part 2. The "buy and bundle" option that has become the default on carts, or at least it was on mine. I had no idea what this service was or when it got introduced, but my order went through with this option such that it gets held for 7 days before shipping. On the surface, this is a "convenience" to allow customers to continue shopping for days. I suspect this more of a device to accommodate the reduced number of employees packing orders (see also: Vernon Hills closure) dressed up as a boon to the customer.
Customer service has been made aware of my concerns (these are actually only the ones that will fit in 4000 characters; I assure you, there are more), but these issues strike me as policy and org level problems. Consequently, I'm done with ThredUp, and I would encourage everybody else to avoid them, too.

Bad customer service ESPECIALLY for an online company! STAY AWAY

First time ThredUp Customer. I purchased a product I've been wearing and buying for over 20yrs. The lable had to be wrong becuase they did NOT come remotely close to fitting. In fact I bought same brand and style off Poshmark and Thredup but ThredUp pair was COMPLETE WRONG SIZING and Poshmark version was perfect. I was n correct time window and executed my ThredUp return... however, I had a credit issue. The ThredUP Customer Service still hasn't replied. Thye NEVER replied to my emails nor my voice messages nor did the CEO evern respond to the direct message I sent him via LINKEDIN. Will never buy from this Co. Again.

Sent a large bag of clothing and got Ghosted by ThreadUP

I started the process in October and was made aware of slight delays due to Covid-19. It took 3 weeks and multiple emails to get my clean-out bag, which I packed and sent back within 2 days. I got confirmation that they received in November. Since then...nothing. Multiple unanswered emails, no payment for items sent, no communication whatsoever. Just a large bag of designer clothing (some new with tags) gone with no compensation to me.

I sent in 2 bags of clothes

I sent in 2 bags of clothes. it took them almost half a year to process and now I am getting pennies for payout. Not knowing well, I sent in clothes that were new or have only been worn once or twice... still the payout is pennies to $1~2. Argg i regret it so much!!!! Please everyone don't get your hopes up, if you are sending in your clothes, think of it as donation to this poor company.

Skeptical of company

This isn’t an honest company. I received 1% on items sold in Nov. 2020.
That’s not worthwhile or ethical.
My suggestion is that you should use a different company then Thred Up!

Should have read the reviews...

I should have read online reviews better before I used Thred Up. I've sent over 200 great condition items and had a terrible experience. The customer service is terrible with responses. It took around 6 months to process my bag (which I didn't really care because of Coronavirus shut downs), but then only 75% of the items were accepted. After that, only 5 of them actually sold. The company posts terrible pictures of the items (all of which were name brand and in new condition) with wrinkles and bad lighting - of course they didn't sell! Then, once they don't sell, I'm supposed to PAY to get them back. I knew these terms, but assumed SOME effort would be put into selling the items. I understand consignment stores understandably are picky and have to take a portion for profit, but this is an unparalleled scam. Will NEVER use them again or recommend them. Would rather donate locally and get the write off.

Please don't use Thredup, the homeless would get more use out of your clothes

If I could use negative stars then I would. But my last email read...
...
My credit disappeared or is all of sudden non-existent. I've sent several clean-out bags over the years to not have ANY credit. Every time you send an email saying my items have sold, I click the link and an error message pops up. I follow the instructions to see my 'credit' or 'sales,' and still NOTHING. I should have something (money wise $) based on the emails lately saying "item sold." Can't see items, kits, or payout received! No history either! I can sign into my account and see my contact info AND NOTHING ELSE!!
About fed up and rather just send my clothes to the goodwill or salvation army. At least I know something good will come out of it. So don't expect a good review out of me, even though I know you won't care. I've been a longtime thrift shopper, and this website is... by no means, thrift store shopping prices!
Good bye and I hope you feel good for price gouging ✌️
---I was so fed up that I couldn't wait for a response from them.

Quality items every time!

This time I purchased items for my three month old daughter. The selection is wonderful, I love the filters that allowed me to weed out items I wasn't looking for. Unlike physical second hand stores (which are crowded and smelly), thread up is simple and organized. The prices are fabulous, the shipping is fast, and the items are of great quality! I will continue to shop here for clothes for myself and my daughter. I'm waiting for a men's department lol!

ThredUP is GREAT

I just started using ThredUP, but I am officially hooked! No longer will I have to dig through racks and racks of clothes to find a great bargain item that fits me perfectly! All you have to do is put in your personal measurements; all of the items that fit those specifications will be right there on your phone or tablet! It's fantastic.

PS-
If anything doesn't fit or look the way you expected it to, they have a great refund policy!
